Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Surgical Center Pre-Op

Location: Wheeling, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Outpatient Surgery - Surgical Center (Pre-Op only, no Phase 1 or Phase 2)
• Nurse to patient ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patient bays
• Float nurses assist and may be assigned patients to manage flow
• Charge nurse is patient-free
• Nurse aides present: 2 aides for the department (1 float aide)

Patient Population & Cases

• Common cases include neuro, open hearts, pediatric ENT, vascular, podiatry, ortho, general surgery, endoscopy, thoracic, and gynecology
• Occasionally care for patients with vents pre-op
• ICU patients recover in PACU, but this position is strictly pre-op

Work Schedule

• Shifts: Five 8-hour shifts per week
• Typical shifts: 6 AM - 2 PM (mostly), with occasional 7 AM - 3 PM and 8 AM - 4 PM shifts (about 4 days/month)
• No self-scheduling; shift requests allowed (up to 4 per month)
• No call, no weekend or holiday call requirements

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS
• PALS

Required Skills & Experience

• IV therapy skills
• Ability to read cardiac rhythms
• Experience with Epic EMR system preferred

Orientation & Dress Code

• Orientation specific to outpatient surgery department
• Scrubs provided by hospital scrub exchange machine

Summary

This is a pre-op RN position in an outpatient surgical center with a focus on a variety of surgical specialties. The role requires strong IV therapy and cardiac rhythm interpretation skills, along with current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications. The schedule is primarily day shifts with no call or weekend requirements, supporting a good work-life balance.
