ICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Nebraska, Omaha
Job Details
- Position: ICU Registered Nurse (RN)
- Location: Omaha, Nebraska
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts (18:30–07:00)
- Hours: 36 hours guaranteed per week
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Schedule: Every other weekend required; holiday shifts vary based on unit needs
- Floating: May float to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical floors
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
Unit & Patient Care
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:
- ICU: 1:2
- Medical patients (if downgraded): 1:5
- PCU: 1:4
- Common Patient Diagnoses: COPD, pneumonia, CVA, TIA, DKA, sepsis, CHF, STEMI, neurological cases
- Nursing Responsibilities:
- Titrate drips including vasopressors, insulin, TNK, heparin, IV antibiotics, sedatives
- Read and interpret telemetry/monitor strips
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as ventilators and BiPAPs
- Support Staff:
- Nurse aides/patient care technicians present (1 tech up to 20 patients, 2 techs up to 24 patients)
- Charge nurse on each shift who also takes patient assignments
- Medical Coverage: 24/7 in-house critical care coverage by hospitalists and intensivists; E-ICU staffed 24/7 by nurse and APRN
Orientation & Training
- System orientation and onboarding during the first week
- 1-2 twelve-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation
- RN skills exam during orientation (open book, must score 90% to pass)
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of ICU unit experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Valid driver’s license required at submission
- Must comply with fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas (non-compliance may lead to contract termination)
- Must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within a 50-mile radius
- Must pass a radius rule: candidate must live within 50 miles of the facility
Additional Information
- Schedule is managed by unit scheduler (no self-scheduling)
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals
- Prior travel experience is not specified as required for this position
