Registered Nurse – Surgery (General Major)

Location: Danville, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: General Major Surgery (includes GI scopes, Cataracts, General Surgery, Gynecology, Pain management, Cardiology, Orthopedics)
• Shifts: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM
• Hours per week: 40 hours
• Call Requirements:

  • Weeknight call 1-2 days/week (3:15 PM – 6:45 AM, Monday–Thursday)
  • Weekend call approximately one weekend per month (3:15 PM Friday – 6:45 AM Monday)
  • Holiday call rotation
  • Call response time: 60 minutes
  • Sleep policy encourages coming to work the next day; staffing permitting, call staff may be excused or first out if unable to work full day after call
• Orientation: Unit-specific orientation up to one week, Monday to Friday, 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM with call requirements
• EMR system: EPIC
• Scrub color/dress code: Hospital-provided scrubs

Patient Care & Environment

• Average cases per day: 12-15
• Operating Rooms: 3 rooms running simultaneously (goal to increase to 4)
• Work alongside surgical technologists (5 full-time, 1 PRN)
• Charge Nurse present Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM; may take assignments and call
• House Supervisor available 24/7 in-house

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Active Illinois RN license (or application in process)
• BLS certification
• ACLS and PALS certifications required

Experience & Skills

• Must have experience in General Surgery and Orthopedics
• Scrubbing not required

Additional Requirements

• Must produce a negative drug screen (drug-free campus policy)
• Local candidates within 50-mile radius preferred (local placement policy applies)

Notes

• Floating to other units is not mandatory at this time
• Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours (guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation)
• Call off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty or pay requirement for the shift missed
