ICU/PCU Registered Nurse

Location

• Prescott Valley, Arizona

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Schedule

• 12-hour night shifts
• Every other weekend
• Holiday rotation
• May be placed on standby if census is low

Required Qualifications

• Active RN role
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification
• At least 2 years of ICU experience
• Must be able to titrate drips
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts before signing the contract

Unit Details

• Combined acuity unit with ICU, PCU, and MST care
• 10 beds
• Ratios vary by acuity:

  • ICU: 1:2
  • PCU: 1:4
  • MST: 1:5–6
  • If no nurse aide is available, primary care ratio may be 1:3
• Common patient types include sepsis, withdrawal, COPD, respiratory arrest, pneumonia, COVID, DKA, blood pressure or heart rate abnormalities, and post-op complications
• PCU patients may have non-titratable infusions to maintain heart rate or blood pressure

Responsibilities

• Read telemetry strips
• Take 12-lead EKGs
• Monitor bedside cardiac monitors
• Manage sedation, vasopressors, and insulin drips

Floating

• May float to adult MST and pediatric units
• May float to ICU/PCU at another campus with two hours’ notice

Additional Notes

• Remote monitor techs support PCU and MST patients
• RT support is available for vents, BiPAP, and CPAP
• Scrubs may be any color except camouflage
• Orientation includes hospital orientation and unit orientation
