Overview

• Travel contract in Bakersfield, California
• 13-week assignment
• Days, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
• Mixed MedSurg & Tele unit with 39 beds
• Fast-paced unit with many admissions and discharges due to surgical volume

Required Qualifications

• Active CA RN license
• 2 full years of experience
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIH certification
• Must be able to read and interpret all cardiac rhythms

Preferred Qualifications

• Cerner experience preferred

Unit Details

• 39 beds: 37 private rooms and 1 semi-private room
• Ratios: 1:4 tele patients; 1:5 MedSurg patients
• May be assigned a mix of MedSurg and Tele patients
• Common patient population includes acute/chronic medical conditions, post-surgical patients including bariatrics and total joints, stroke patients, and non-titratable drips
• Set rate drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin

Scheduling and Float

• Weekend requirement: 4 shifts out of a 4-week schedule
• Holidays: 1 major holiday and 1 minor holiday
• Travelers are first to float
• May float to any MedSurg/Tele
• May float between MSW and MHB
• May float to ICU for MedSurg patients if no beds
• May float to ER for MedSurg Tele holds

Additional Details

• Scrub color: navy blue
• Floor orientation is normally 1-2 shifts, but may be up to 3 depending on Cerner experience
• Cpap or Bipap used per RT
• Hospitalist or Intensivist in house on call after hours
• RT 24/7
• Pharmacy 24/7
• IV team: no
