Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ICU/IMCU Float RN)

Location: Munster, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Floating between ICU and IMCU units
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
• Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM, nights)
• Experience: Minimum 2 years required (first-timers accepted)
• License: Indiana or Compact RN license required (must be in hand)
• Certifications: ACLS and BLS required
• Schedule: Every other weekend required
• Return to Office (RTO): 5 days or less with only 1 holiday (firm)
• EPIC electronic health record system experience required

Required Credentials & Documentation

• Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid Indiana or Compact RN license (no temporary licenses accepted)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA required, must be current or updated within 60 days of start
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA required, must be current or updated within 60 days of start
  • PALS, NRP as applicable by specialty
  • NIH Stroke Certification (annual requirement)
• Background Checks:

  • Comprehensive background check within 30 days and updated annually (includes SS trace, county, nationwide, sex offender, FACIS L3)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start
• Health Requirements:

  • Physical exam within 1 year, cleared to work with no restrictions and free of communicable diseases
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunity titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (boosters and declinations accepted if titers low)
  • Drug screening (10-panel) within 3 weeks of start (no instant tests)
  • Fit mask (N95 respirator) required prior to start; facial hair must comply with OSHA standards
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation during flu season (10/1 - 3/31) or approved exemption
  • COVID-19 vaccination (2 doses Moderna/Pfizer or 1 dose J&J) or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
• Competency Exams & Testing:

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (annual)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (advanced EKG exam with measurements) required for ICU/IMCU and related units; must be completed within 72 hours of signing and annually thereafter
  • Pass/fail testing on EKG and medication administration on first day of orientation (2 attempts allowed)
  • Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) and OSHA mandatory training (annual)
  • Color blind testing within 1 year (online acceptable)
• Other Documentation:

  • Employment application and work history verification
  • References: 2 from most recent contract (supervisors or charge nurses acceptable)
  • Emergency contact form
  • Various facility-specific agreements and acknowledgements (confidentiality, benefits waiver, credential checklist, electronic health record access agreement, medication administration study guides, staffing agreement, COVID-19 travel acknowledgement, etc.)

• Locals accepted (same base rate)
• Candidate must be prepared for competency exams and study guides provided prior to start
• Facility uses EPIC electronic health record system
• Strict compliance with all credentialing, health, and competency requirements is mandatory for onboarding and continued employment

This position is ideal for experienced ICU/IMCU nurses who are comfortable floating between units, working night shifts, and meeting rigorous credentialing and competency standards.
