Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 7:30)
Hours: 36 hours per week
Job Description
- Position in Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit, primarily night shifts; schedule may flip every 4 weeks between nights and days if needed.
- High-risk L&D unit with OB Triage, Labor & Delivery, OR suites, and PACU rooms.
- Average daily deliveries around 7, with up to 14 patients including inductions and high-risk antepartum cases.
- Floating to similar units may be required to meet facility needs.
- Weekend work required every other weekend.
- No on-call requirement.
- Block scheduling accommodations are not available.
- Local candidates not accepted; permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alaska
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year required
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- AWHONN Intermediate certification
- AWHONN Advanced certification
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
Facility Information
- Acute hospital with 407 staffed beds.
- Magnet designated facility.
- Level II Trauma center.
- Uses Epic for charting.
- Free parking available.
Work Hours and Scheduling
- Guaranteed 60 hours per 2 weeks.
- Traveler may be called off for one 12-hour shift per 2 weeks.
- Time off requests approved individually and must be included with submittal.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
Background Checks & Verifications
- Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually.
- Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires transcript/diploma.
- NURSYS license verification required.
- Drug screen: 9-panel within 12 months of start; instant tests acceptable.
- Minimum 5 years of employment history required on application; must include month/year format.
- Work history verification required if reference exceptions are requested.
Health and Safety
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
- Fit mask test required for travel candidates starting on or after 2/5/2024; must be updated annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or declination accepted:
- TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (vaccination series or signed declination; positive titer and vaccine series required for Alaska placements)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Seasonal Flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
- COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow infection prevention protocols.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months; updated annually.
Competency and Training
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or fetal heart rate monitoring assessment required for L&D RNs.
- Annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules required via LMS.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must comply with floating policy and may be required to float to other units within reasonable distance.
- Candidates must submit all required documentation timely to avoid delays.
- No local candidates accepted; must live at least 50 miles away from the facility.
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
