Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (LTC) - Travel/Contract

Location: Vestal, New York
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 8-hour shifts (10:45 PM - 7:15 AM), 5 days per week, 40 hours total
  • Shift Change: Shift cannot be changed once offered
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required upon center request
  • Patient Population: Alzheimer's & Dementia patients
  • Facility Type: State/Government-run Long-Term Care Center including rehabilitation therapies, skilled nursing, memory care, wound care
  • Staff Ratios: Approximately 1:18-20 residents
  • Attire: Any solid color scrubs and closed-toe shoes
  • Charting System: PCC (Point Click Care) - no submission required
  • Parking: Free
  • Mileage Reimbursement: None

Required Qualifications

  • License: Must hold an active New York State RN license (no license hits allowed)
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of Long-Term Care (LTC) experience required; recent experience in rehab, med-surg, or hospital settings also accepted
  • Certifications: BLS certification required (accepted from any recognized entity; online-only courses acceptable)
  • Testing: Must pass medication administration (med pass) test and clinical observation
  • Attendance: Strong attendance and punctuality required; dependable with consistent attendance
  • Background: Standard background check within 1 year, including 7-year location history and sex offender search
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with exceptions for prior positive results)
    • Flu vaccine or declination on file year-round (mask required if declined during flu season)
    • COVID-19 vaccination or declination required
    • Pneumonia vaccination proof or declination required
    • Drug screening (9-panel) required for direct candidates within 1 year of start
  • Additional Training: Completion of assigned Relias modules with a minimum passing grade (80% on modules, 90% on medication exam) prior to assignment start
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred) within 2 years of start
  • Identification: Government-issued photo ID required (copy of front only)

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
  • Perform medication passes accurately and safely
  • Monitor and report changes in resident condition
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation
  • Provide nursing care according to facility policies
  • Supervise CNAs on assigned units

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility with scheduling
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work well with diverse populations
  • Professional and personable demeanor with excellent communication skills
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • No shift changes or requests off allowed after offer acceptance (RTO only approved at time of submission)
  • Call-outs require more than 24 hours’ notice
  • Locals accepted for this assignment
  • Prior travel experience is not required
  • First-time travelers are accepted

Onboarding & Compliance

  • Start dates occur every 2 weeks due to orientation schedule
  • Compliance and onboarding process takes approximately 1.5 to 2 weeks
  • Fingerprinting required for CNAs (not applicable for RN role)
  • Modules must be started promptly upon receipt and completed no later than 3 days before assignment start
  • Additional modules may be assigned after start date and must be completed by assigned due dates

This position offers an opportunity to work in a comprehensive long-term care setting with a focus on skilled nursing and memory care populations. The role requires a dependable, experienced RN with strong clinical skills and the ability to work independently on night shifts.
