Job Opportunity: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Description
- Position involves floating every other weekend across multiple units including subacute rehab, long-term care (LTC), memory care, pulmonary care, and ventilator units.
- Units include:
- Household Units (LTC): Long-term care for patients, including those with dementia or cognitive impairments. Staff must monitor patient movement closely.
- Hall 1 (Subacute Care): 42-bed unit focused on post-op, post-stroke, cardiac rehab, wound care, and ambulatory rehab in a fast-paced environment.
- Hall 2 (LTC/Memory Care): 50-bed unit with patients of varying acuity including diabetes, cardiac issues, dementia, and behavioral challenges.
- Burk 1 (Pulmonary Care): 17-bed unit caring for chronic and acute illnesses, including chronic trach patients.
- Burk 2 (Ventilator): 18-23 bed unit for patients with complex respiratory needs requiring ventilator support. Requires specialized training for ventilator care and alarm response.
Required Qualifications
- Valid LPN/LVN license in Maryland.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) within the last year.
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Ability to recognize and respond to patient needs, routines, and preferences.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, especially for ventilator unit care.
- Specialized training for ventilator care and alarm management is required.
Certifications & Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
- Government-issued photo ID.
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Drug screening (9 panel) within 30 days of start.
- Required vaccinations or immunity documentation: MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu (seasonal).
- Competency exams including medication and dysrhythmia/EKG as applicable.
- Facility-specific policies and floating agreements must be reviewed and signed.
- Stroke and Trauma CEUs may be required depending on unit assignment.
- Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication administration may be required.
Additional Information
- The role requires flexibility to float between multiple units with varying patient acuity and care needs.
- Candidates must be able to badge in/out on dementia units to prevent patient elopement.
- Ventilator unit requires advanced clinical skills and ability to manage complex respiratory equipment.
- Compliance with all facility-specific documentation and policies is mandatory prior to start.
This position is ideal for LPNs with at least one year of experience who are comfortable working in diverse long-term care and subacute settings, including ventilator and pulmonary care units.
