Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Location: Fredericksburg, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Start Date: ASAP
Shift: Night shift
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend plus every other holiday
On Call: Potential mandatory on-call, approximately 2 shifts per month
Floating: Required to float within scope to ER, Adult ICU Stepdown, pediatric unit, and adult floors as needed
Job Description
- Position requires an RRT who can work in NICU and adult units, including ER and ICU stepdown.
- Assignments will vary in acuity; this is not a NICU-only role.
- Must be able to provide care across adult critical care, emergency department, pediatric, and neonatal intensive care settings.
- Responsibilities include airway management, medication administration, arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and analysis, oxygen therapy, suctioning, pulmonary toileting, BiPAP, CPAP, and nebulizer treatments.
- Experience with aerosol, bronchial hygiene, lung inflation therapies, and level 2 trauma care preferred.
- Attendance at monthly department meetings is required (or acknowledgment of meeting minutes if not working).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Experience in NICU, ER, and adult ICU settings
Work Environment
- Short-term acute care hospital with Level II Trauma Center designation
- Total staffed beds: 431
- Electronic health record system: Epic
- Night shift position with floating responsibilities across multiple units
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work every other weekend and holiday as scheduled
- Potential for mandatory on-call shifts (approximately 2 per month)
- Must attend or acknowledge monthly department meetings
- Locals accepted; block scheduling at manager's discretion
Compliance and Documentation
- Background check including criminal, education, and driving records as applicable
- Verification of highest degree and licensure primary source verification
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Drug screening within 30 days prior to start
- Immunizations and health screenings including TB test, flu vaccination (or approved exemption), and others as required
- Fit mask (N95) certification and annual updates
- Completion of facility-specific orientation, competency exams, and training modules as required
- References: 2 required from supervisors or managers within the last 2 years (outside of this facility if previously employed here)
- Employment application and work history verification (minimum 2 years)

- First-time travelers are accepted for this position.
