Job Opportunity: RRT Pediatrics (Travel/Contract)

Position Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: May float within scope depending on experience; no floating to sister facilities

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Pediatric Respiratory Therapist license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Pediatric, Neonate, and Infant patients
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • 3x12 hour night shifts per week (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Holiday rotation included
  • Every other weekend required
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks (guaranteed hours with some flexibility)
  • Radius rule: 60 miles; local candidates considered case-by-case

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of work eligibility in the US (I-9 form and E-Verify attestation)
  • Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
  • Copy of Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Annual background check covering 7 years of residence/employment, including:
    • SSN trace
    • Statewide and national criminal checks
    • Sex offender registry
    • FACIS 3 and international searches if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder if needed
  • Proof of 2 clinical references
  • Complete employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Last 3 clinical employers verified through a third-party vendor (attestation letters accepted if verification not possible)
  • Facility-specific first day instructions and mandatory orientation modules (approx. 2 hours)
  • Clear, passport-style badge photo required before start

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Initial physical exam and annual updates attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity/vaccination for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31), with documentation uploaded by December 5 deadline

Certifications & Competencies

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) not required for pediatric units
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
  • Color blindness testing required prior to start
  • Competency exam required; pediatric OR candidates may use regular OR competency exam if no pediatric experience
  • Additional certifications such as Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), NIH Stroke Certification, and IV Therapy certification may be required depending on unit and role (confirm with recruiter)

Additional Notes

  • Hurricane season (June–November) may require emergency response team participation; peak months August and September
  • Radiation badge required only for specific roles (not applicable for Respiratory Therapists)
  • All required documents and certifications must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start date
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated with prior approval but is not guaranteed
