Job Opportunity: Step-Down Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Auburn, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • Step-Down unit with patient ratio approximately 1:4-5
  • Patient diagnoses include:
    • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
    • Post heart catheterization
    • Post vascular procedures
    • Respiratory failure requiring BiPAP/CPAP/Vapotherm
    • Cardiac dysrhythmias

Unit Procedures & Expectations

  • Post-heart catheterization care including TR bands
  • Post-vascular procedure monitoring
  • Frequent vital signs and neurovascular checks

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Step-Down nursing experience, including experience within the last year

Education

  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Required Documentation & Compliance

Background & Verification

  • Background check within 1 year covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start
  • Nursys verification prior to start

Health & Immunizations

  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by licensed provider
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • TDAP (within last 10 years or declination)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity (2 MMR vaccines or serologic titers)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Varicella immunity (2 vaccines, positive titer, or documented history)
    • Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
    • COVID vaccine records or declination
  • Negative TB test (PPD, T-Spot, or QGold) within 1 year or chest x-ray if previously positive, plus annual TB questionnaire
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start

  • Code of Conduct
  • Patient Abuse Reporting
  • Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement
  • Orientation Packet Acknowledgement
  • Automated Dispensing Cabinet Security (for Pyxis access)
  • Annual Tuberculosis Screening Questionnaire

Other Requirements

  • Stroke education: 8 hours annually (NIH Stroke Scale training may count toward total)
  • 2 professional references within 3 years of hire
  • Skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted (with adjusted pay rate)
  • No blocked scheduling; every other weekend (EOW) and every other holiday (EOH) off

This position is ideal for experienced Step-Down RNs with strong cardiac, neurological, and respiratory skills seeking a travel contract in New York with night shifts and a supportive patient ratio.
