Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU (Nights)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work primarily night shifts (3x12 hour shifts) including weekdays and some weekends.
  • Provide nursing care in Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
  • Start and manage IVs.
  • Administer medications safely.
  • Monitor vital signs and patient responses.
  • Educate patients on treatments and self-care.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team on patient care plans.
  • Use EPIC EMR for documentation.
  • May float to lower acuity units as needed.
  • Follow hospital policies and maintain patient safety.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • IV Certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 90 days of start.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start.
  • Education must be from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
  • Monthly monitoring through workforce screening programs.
  • Various facility-specific compliance forms and policies must be reviewed and signed.

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA approved.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit.
  • Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke Certification may be required based on unit assignment.
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG exams required within 1 year of start and updated annually.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies.
  • Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training prior to start and annually thereafter.
