Job Description
Seeking an Operating Room Registered Nurse with experience in Ophthalmology and a well-rounded intraoperative skill set, including cataract and vitrectomy procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage nursing care from admission to discharge, ensuring competent, compassionate, and cost-effective patient care.
- Ensure patient safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection.
- Perform disease prevention and restorative measures.
- Respond to medical and environmental emergencies.
Required Qualifications
Licenses & Certifications
- California Registered Nurse (RN) License
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in Ophthalmology with a well-rounded intraoperative skill set
- Experience with vitrectomy procedures
- At least 6 months of total travel experience
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start
- Various federal and state screenings including EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, FACIS Level 3, Sex Offender Search, OFAC Sanctions List, and Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List (as applicable)
- Education verification and transcript/diploma requirements
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per California law)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella immunity or vaccination documentation
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30)
- Respiratory safety clearance prior to start, renewed annually
- References and employment history verification (7 years required, no gaps over 30 days without explanation)
Additional Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific documents and agreements prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, code of conduct, orientation)
- Competency exams as applicable (medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG)
- Unit-specific skills checklist, renewed annually
- Compliance with all regulatory and facility standards
