Job Description

Seeking an Operating Room Registered Nurse with experience in Ophthalmology and a well-rounded intraoperative skill set, including cataract and vitrectomy procedures.

• Manage nursing care from admission to discharge, ensuring competent, compassionate, and cost-effective patient care.
• Ensure patient safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection.
• Perform disease prevention and restorative measures.
• Respond to medical and environmental emergencies.

Required Qualifications

Licenses & Certifications

• California Registered Nurse (RN) License
• Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification

Experience

• Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience in Ophthalmology with a well-rounded intraoperative skill set
• Experience with vitrectomy procedures
• At least 6 months of total travel experience

Background & Compliance Requirements

• 7-year background check required within 6 months of start
• Various federal and state screenings including EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, FACIS Level 3, Sex Offender Search, OFAC Sanctions List, and Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List (as applicable)
• Education verification and transcript/diploma requirements
• Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per California law)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
• Immunizations and health screenings including:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella immunity or vaccination documentation
  • Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30)
• Respiratory safety clearance prior to start, renewed annually
• References and employment history verification (7 years required, no gaps over 30 days without explanation)

Additional Requirements

• Completion of facility-specific documents and agreements prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, code of conduct, orientation)
• Competency exams as applicable (medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG)
• Unit-specific skills checklist, renewed annually
• Compliance with all regulatory and facility standards
