Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Description

• Work on a 24-bed maximum capacity medical-surgical unit focused on at-risk patients.
• The unit is secured with enhanced safety features including video monitoring, ligature alarms, anti-barricade doors, and badge-secured entrance.
• Floating between units is required.
• Work schedule includes every other weekend; options for 36 or 48 hours/week may be discussed during the interview.
• The role is physically active, requiring ambulating, reaching, and moving objects over 20 lbs.
• Exposure to patients with contagious illnesses is routine.
• Facility operates 24/7, requiring rotating shifts, holiday work, and work during inclement weather.
• Essential functions include working full shifts, taking call, working assigned weekends, and covering at least 50% of holidays during the contract.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
• Minimum 2 years of medical-surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Ability and willingness to float between units as required.

Certifications (as applicable)

• BLS (required for all RNs).
• ACLS (not required for this med-surg unit).
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required for ER RNs starting 11/5/2024 (not mandatory here).
• Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, CHEMO, EFM, CPI, etc., are not required for this position.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Background check covering 7 years, including alias search, criminal, sex offender, social security trace, and international checks if applicable.
• Drug screening (7-panel negative test within 60 days).
• Immunizations and health screenings including:

  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years or approved exemption.
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination.
  • Varicella immunity or vaccination.
  • Hepatitis B series or immunity (declinations no longer accepted for new candidates).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season.
• State-specific background checks and registries as required by Missouri.
• Photo for badge (new candidates only).
• Physical exam within 1 year.
• Fit mask test within 1 year (not required for some non-clinical roles).
• Verification of professional references (2 required within last 2 years).
• Employment application/resume with 7 years of work history and no gaps over 30 days.

• Work in a secured, safety-enhanced environment.
• Rotating shifts with weekend and holiday coverage.

Additional Notes

• Candidates must be able to work the full term of the contract at the assigned location.
• Must be able to work the majority of the assigned shift and take call.
• Must be able to work assigned weekends and at least half of the holidays during the contract.
