Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Replacement role in a high-acuity adult cardiac surgery unit covering cardiac, thoracic, and vascular cases.
- Shift: Day/Evening rotating shifts (2x8hr and 2x12hr shifts) with option for 5x8hr shifts. Day and evening shift rotation is required.
- Call requirements: 2-4 weeknights and 1-2 weekends per 4-week schedule. Call shifts are no longer than 12 hours, with weekend call limited to either Friday-Saturday nights or Saturday-Sunday days.
Patient Population & Procedures
- Adult cardiac surgery patients including:
- Cardiac: Aortic Aneurysm Repair, MVR, AVR, CABG, ECMO, Heart Transplant, MAZE, LVAD/RVAD, Aortic Balloon/Impella Devices
- Thoracic: VATS Wedge Resection, VATS/Open Lobectomy, Esophagectomy (Minimally Invasive & Transhiatal), Bronchoscopy, EGD, Mediastinal Mass Removal, Lung Transplant, Hiatal Hernia Repair
- Vascular: AAA, EVAR, Carotid Endarterectomy, AV Fistulas, Fem-distal bypass, Fem-fem bypass, SMA bypass, Vein stripping/ablation
Experience & Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVOR)
- Required Experience: At least 2 years of CVOR RN experience (highest required years of experience)
- Prior Travel Experience: Required (explicitly stated)
- Scrub experience must demonstrate proficiency level 3 or 4 on skills list
Certifications & Licensure
- ACLS (AHA only, no certificates of completion accepted)
- BLS (AHA only, no certificates of completion accepted)
- PALS (AHA only, as applicable)
- NRP (as applicable)
- State RN License verification required
- NURSYS verification required
- Pass/Fail competency testing (EKG/Medication) required for ICU units including CVICU
Compliance & Health Requirements
- Flu vaccination required starting 10/31/2025 through Winter 2026 with no exemptions allowed (egg-free vaccine available for allergies)
- COVID vaccination no longer required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if past positive, clear chest X-ray within 5 years and annual TB questionnaire required
- Immunizations or titers required for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (boosters required if titers negative/equivocal)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually

- Unit is flexible with time-off requests and scheduling; management is highly accommodating
- Positive team dynamic and work environment reported by previous travelers
- Orientation includes essential paperwork and pass/fail testing; timely completion required to avoid assignment disruption
- Background checks and verifications required prior to start and updated annually (7-year background check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
- Two recent professional references required (from managers/supervisors; charge RN references not accepted)
