Job Opportunity: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Work in a 20-bed Neuro ICU unit caring for adult patients with traumatic brain injuries (TBI), strokes, epilepsy, and other head traumas.
- Patients recover on the unit post-op (no recovery room).
- Multi-care level unit; nurses may care for up to five Med Surg patients.
- Frequent floating required to meet staffing needs, including potential float to other units and campuses.
- EVD (External Ventricular Drain) experience and Joint Commission stroke certification required.
- GRID patients with implanted EEG leads may stay up to three weeks.
- Drip management required on all floors.
- EPIC charting experience required.
- First-time travel nurses not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
- 100% nicotine-free facility.
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Neuro ICU)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital (higher experience requirement confirmed).
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Skills:
- EVD management
- Joint Commission stroke certified facility experience
- EPIC electronic medical record charting
- Other:
- Must be prepared to float frequently within scope.
- Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility).
- Pending license accepted but must be in hand at time of submission or booking delayed.
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during contract.
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days and nights).
Work Schedule Options
- 36 or 48-hour shifts available.
- Contract options: 13 or 26 weeks.
Facility Environment
- Level I Academic Medical Center with 718 acute-care beds.
- Treats some of the sickest and most complex patients.
- Teaching hospital affiliated with a major university medical center.
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs.
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background check including federal enhanced search required.
- Ongoing SAM and OIG checks required every 30 days.
- Education verification and primary source license verification required.
- Drug screen within 60 days of start and updated annually.
- Physical exam and fit mask test required annually.
- Immunizations and health documents required: Tdap, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, TB testing, flu vaccination documentation preferred.
- COVID vaccination preferred; exemptions accepted.
- Scrubs: Steele gray scrubs with facility logo mandatory.
- Parking permit available for a fee or daily parking rates apply.
Prior Travel Experience
- First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
