Job Summary: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Bel Air, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks (interpreted as 13 weeks)
Start Date: 01/26/2026
Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (07:00 - 19:30), days only
Schedule: Every other weekend required, holidays as scheduled
Patient Population: Variety of diagnoses in an Emergency Department border area (excluding critical care units)
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5 on days, 1:4 on weekends
Floating: May be required within the specialty
On-call: Not required
Scrub Color: Navy blue


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted with strong experience
  • Prior travel experience: Not required

Licenses & Certifications Required

  • Maryland RN State License
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (must be current and updated annually)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) required as applicable
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred but not mandatory

Patient Care & Competencies

  • Work involves a variety of patient diagnoses typical to an Emergency Department border area
  • Competency exams required:
    • MS/Tele competency exam specific to unit
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score 80% or higher)
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (score 80% or higher)
    • Age-specific competency exam (score 80% or higher)
    • Color Blind Testing required for all candidates

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Education verification for highest level of education
  • State-specific exclusions list check (Maryland Medicaid Sanctioned Providers List) within 30 days of start
  • Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 30-45 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Latex screening
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for ER RN)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination proof)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination; series not accepted)
    • Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation collected for tracking

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Two professional references required (one must be a supervisor/manager or charge RN)
  • Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
  • Verification of previous 5 years of employment history (attestation accepted if necessary)
  • Facility-specific documents to review/sign prior to start, including confidentiality agreements, dress code, appearance standards, and unit-specific job description
  • Security ID application and badge photo required
  • OSHA questionnaire required for all candidates

Additional Notes

  • Floating within specialty may be required
  • Weekends and holidays are mandatory as scheduled
  • No on-call duties
  • Candidates must complete all required competencies and certifications prior to or during orientation
  • Facility orientation includes completion of certain modules and training tests (e.g., Epic Portfolio Training Test Out Form)
