Job Details

  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule period (combination of Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • Floating: Regular floating between departments, units, and facility as needed
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years required
  • Preferred Experience: Previous charge nurse and teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Skills and Competencies Required

  • Work Settings: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry, Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, ER Holding, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response: Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Cardiovascular Care: Post cardiac care, angiogram, post-MI, pre/post cardiac catheterization and surgery
  • Endocrine/Metabolic: IV insulin protocols
  • Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management
  • Genitourinary/Renal: Pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Blood product administration, central line care/management, phlebotomy, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting IVs
  • Medications: Heparin protocols, management of cardiac drips (no titration), PCA, procedural sedation administration, titration of cardiac drips
  • Neurological/Psychiatric: Stroke (CVA) care
  • Orthopedics: Peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements
  • Plastics: Surgical drains
  • Respiratory: Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management
  • Professional Skills: Isolation precautions, wound care, wound vac management

Preferred Skills

  • IV therapy/phlebotomy: Accessing ports
  • Oncology: Monitoring chemotherapy

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months of start (including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable)
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree (cannot pend at start)
  • Professional license primary source verification (Missouri licenses verified via NURSYS)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include comprehensive drug panel and be valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers required or declination forms for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B declination required (not mandatory vaccine)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start (2-step PPD or equivalent)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 - April 1)
  • Various facility-specific compliance documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, latex allergy questionnaire, confidentiality form, regulatory compliance education, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies
  • Unit-specific competency exams including medication test/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG competency, and oncology competency if applicable
  • Skills checklist required within 1 year of start (oncology skills checklist required for Med Surg-Oncology unit)
  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)

Additional Notes

  • Floating between units and departments is expected within scope of practice
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated
  • Candidates must complete required orientation and training modules prior to start
  • Candidates must have an Aya Healthcare badge and facility photo badge
  • No on-call shifts required for this position

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of experience, comfortable working night shifts in a PCU setting with a variety of complex patient care skills, and who meet the comprehensive certification and compliance requirements. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
