Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics - Travel/Contract

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Details

  • Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1.5 years in specialty (highest requirement found)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
  • Schedule: Every other weekend (Friday/Saturday), must be available to work 2 of 3 holidays
  • Patient Mix: Adult and Pediatric
  • Float Units: Pediatric ICU, Emergency Department, Adult Critical Care, and possibly others based on skill set and hospital needs
  • Preferred Experience: PICU/NICU experience preferred
  • Procedures: Blood gas analysis, ventilator/BiPAP/High flow initiation and management, code response, in-house transport, medication administration, chest physiotherapy
  • Equipment Experience: Servo I & U ventilators, V60 BiPAP
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Licenses/Certifications Required:
    • New Jersey State License
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • Certifications Preferred:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • Will train onsite for advanced certifications if not currently held

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 30 days of start
    • Must include all aliases and locations worked/lived in past 7 years
    • Nationwide and state-specific searches required
    • Candidates cannot start with open cases or pending charges
  • Health Documents:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
    • Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
    • Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test)
    • Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
    • Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory
    • Latex allergy screening questionnaire if applicable
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required for all RNs/LPNs
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for applicable units
    • Color blindness testing within one year if job tasks require color discrimination
  • References & Work History:
    • Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
    • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
    • Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start)
  • Facility Specific Requirements:
    • Floating policy acknowledgment required for every new assignment
    • Annual education sign-off and completion of facility-specific training modules
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) training required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (online and in-person portions)
    • Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge with remediation process if needed

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must bring all required documentation to orientation and be prepared for on-site fit testing.
  • Candidates with facial hair must be clean-shaven for fit testing unless approved for accommodation.
  • Candidates must comply with all facility policies including annual education, flu vaccination, and background check requirements.
  • The facility uses EPIC for charting and requires flexibility to float between units as needed.
  • Advanced certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP) are highly preferred but onsite training is available.
  • Must be able to work some holidays as specified.
