Job Opportunity: Surgical Services (Travel/Contract)

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Surgical Services with a focus on Cardiac Scrub (CV Scrub) skillset
  • Patient Population: Adult cardiac surgery patients, vascular and thoracic cases, complex and high acuity
  • Call Requirements: Weekend and weeknight call required
  • Float: As needed within scope

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Surgical Services with cardiac scrub skills
  • 1st time travelers not accepted (prior travel experience required)

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, no certificates of completion accepted
  • CST (Certified Surgical Technologist)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, no certificates of completion or RQI cards accepted
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - as applicable, AHA only
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - as applicable, AHA only
  • Other certifications as applicable to the role and unit

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (N95 or equivalent)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if past positive, must complete annual TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (titers or vaccines with boosters if needed)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required year-round with strict deadlines; no exemptions allowed

Orientation & Facility Specific Requirements

  • Pass/fail competency testing (EKG/Medication) required upon arrival for ICU, PACU, Tele units including CVICU
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation paperwork within 3 weeks of start date is mandatory
  • Various facility-specific attestations and agreements must be reviewed and signed prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, code of conduct, sexual harassment policy)
  • Badge and pager return policies apply at assignment end

References & Evaluations

  • Two recent professional references required (from managers/supervisors; charge RN references not accepted)
  • Facility will complete performance evaluations during assignment

This position is ideal for experienced surgical technologists with cardiac scrub skills who have prior travel contract experience and meet the certification and compliance requirements.
