Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Start Dates: Desired start 12/29 or 01/12
• Schedule:

  • 36 hours guaranteed per week, with option to pick up additional shifts
  • Every other weekend required
  • No guaranteed block schedule (if block schedule is a must, this position may not be suitable)
• Orientation: Must be available for orientation during the first 2 weeks of assignment

Float Assignments

• Med-Surg (MS) floats to: AU, OSU, GSU, NVU, CAR, GMU, AMU, EMCU
• Critical Care (CC) floats to: TCU, CSU, MICU, NCCU, and med-surg units as needed

Patient Ratios

• Med-Surg: 4-6 patients per nurse
• ICU: 2-3 patients per nurse

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year nursing experience required
• 1st year travelers will be considered
• Must be comfortable with both Med-Surg and ICU patient ratios
• ACLS (AHA) and BCLS (AHA) certifications required

Certifications & Competencies

• Required Certifications:

  • ACLS (AHA)
  • BLS (AHA)
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification, CPI)
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score ≥ 80%, completed within 1 year prior to assignment)
• Competency Exam in specialty (passing score ≥ 80%, completed within 1 year prior to assignment)

Background & Compliance

• Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search back to age 18
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
• Education verification required (copy of highest degree or diploma)
• Michigan Central Registry Clearance required for pediatric, RRT, L&D, and certain specialty placements
• MI LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions
• Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 45 days of start (no exceptions)

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask test (Honeywell DC365N95HC) required onsite for certain units
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (must include pertussis)
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 45 days of start
• Annual TB questionnaire
• Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required
• Hepatitis B: titer, series, or facility declination required
• Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption required for candidates starting after 11/1

Facility Policies & Documents

• Review and sign Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards Policy prior to start
• Complete Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
• Vaccine exemption forms required if applicable (medical or confidential vaccine exemption)
• Personal or auto insurance required for Home Health (not applicable here)

References & Application

• One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required
• Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps (present timeframes acceptable)
• Skills checklist for applicable unit, updated annually

• Holiday requests limited to one holiday day or one adjacent day (e.g., Thanksgiving Day only, not Thanksgiving Day plus Eve or Day after)
• Candidates must confirm awareness and comfort with patient ratios and float assignments before applying

This position offers a dynamic float role requiring flexibility across Med-Surg and ICU units with a guaranteed minimum of 36 hours per week and a commitment to every other weekend coverage.
