Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Job Description

• ASAP start, night shift (MS/Tele NIGHTS)
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Unit: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Certification

Required Skills and Competencies

• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Management of dysrhythmias
• Use of Rapid Response Teams
• IV insulin protocols
• Feeding tube care and management
• Continuous Bladder Irrigation
• Pre/Post Hemodialysis Management
• Renal failure care
• Accessing ports and blood product administration
• Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management
• Starting IVs and heparin protocols
• PCA management
• Care for CVA, orthopedic trauma, total joint replacements
• Management of surgical drains and chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
• Use of external CPAP/BIPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
• Interpretation of ABGs
• Oxygen delivery devices (nasal cannula, face masks, portable oxygen tanks)
• Non-invasive airway management and tracheostomy care
• Isolation precautions
• Wound care and wound vac management

Scheduling and Time Off

• No return to office (RTO) during the first two weeks of assignment
• Maximum 3 days RTO allowed during the contract
• Must be willing to work holidays
• RTO requests are final once submitted (can only be canceled, not changed)

Required Documentation and Compliance

Background Checks

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (updated monthly)
• Education verification (highest level required)

Certifications

• ACLS, BLS, NIH Stroke Certification as noted above
• Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) with in-person physical component required for ER and ICU RNs (can pend if online version on file, must complete in-person within 90 days)
• Harassment Prevention Training (1 hour for non-supervisory clinical staff)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (single attempt, must pass prior to start)
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (passing score 80%)
• Competency exams as applicable to specialty (e.g., fetal monitoring for L&D)
• State nursing license verification within 14 days prior to start

Health Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year, confirming fitness for duty and free of communicable disease
• Fit mask test within 1 year (annual renewal required) for applicable units
• Immunizations or documented immunity required for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination series)
  • Hepatitis B vaccine series, positive titer, or declination
• Drug screening: Negative 7-panel drug test within 30 days of start (instant acceptable)
• Seasonal flu and COVID vaccinations or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)

Facility Specific Requirements

• Photo for badge (white background, shoulders up) required (not for per diem)
• Completion of pre-start Oracle modules by 5 PM on first Monday of assignment
• Interim Life Safety Measures compliance prior to start
• Background check attestation allowed if county search pending at start (travel and per diem only)
• Fit test religious exemption form if applicable

References and Employment History

• Clinical candidates: 2 professional references from manager or above, validated within 2 years
• Employment application/resume with at least 1 year relevant experience and 7 years work history if applicable
• Skills checklist updated annually (not required for non-licensed workers)

This position requires a highly skilled RN with telemetry experience, strong critical care competencies, and compliance with extensive credentialing and health requirements. The assignment is for approximately 8 weeks on night shift with limited time off and holiday work expected.
