Overview

Collects and prepares blood samples for laboratory testing, enters specimen collections in the lab information system, and assists medical technologists and/or pathologists with designated laboratory tests.

Required Qualifications

• Medical Lab Scientist (2 years of experience)
• Medical Lab Scientist experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• ASCP

Preferred

• Travel experience

Responsibilities

• Uses skin puncture and venipuncture techniques to obtain blood samples
• Verifies patient information, labels specimen vials, and matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Disposes of contaminated needles and biohazard materials according to applicable laws, standards, and policies
• Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into appropriate systems
• Processes specimens according to established guidelines
• Organizes blood-drawing trays and maintains sterile, first-time-use supplies
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment and follows infection-control and hazardous waste protocols
