Registered Nurse – ICU

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Unit & Patient Care Information

• Medical-Surgical ICU, 16-bed unit
• Level 2 trauma center with medical and surgical neuro patients
• Patient ratio typically 2:1
• Primary cases include stroke care, cerebral monitoring and drains, ventilators, drips, chest tubes, spinal drains, JP drains, and some CRRT patients
• Patient population may include trauma from logging, motorcycle, and snowmobile accidents depending on season
• Float between Medical-Surgical ICU and Neuro ICU units; possible float to other critical care and inpatient units as needed
• Weekend and holiday rotation: every other weekend and holiday

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of combined Medical-Surgical and ICU nursing experience with strong neuro experience
• Wisconsin RN license required
• Certifications required: BLS, NIHSS, ACLS
• CCRN certification preferred but not required
• EPIC charting experience preferred
• Must be able to manage independently, work resiliently, and adapt well to change

Additional Information

• Contractors must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Picking up call is permitted but not required; if called, 1-hour response time expected
• Low census hours available in increments (typically 4-hour blocks), not considered on call
• Scrub color is flexible (any color allowed)
• Flu and COVID vaccination policy: during flu season, travelers who decline vaccination must wear a mask at all times per facility policy; non-compliance may result in corrective action
• Orientation week hours may vary; guaranteed hours apply except during holidays when the unit is closed
