Registered Nurse - Neurology (Travel)

Location: Newburgh, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Specialty: Neurology (Neuro Surgical MS RN)
• Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week (48 hours accepted upon request)
• Overtime: Applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
• Schedule: No blocked schedule requests; weekend option available
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks; every other holiday
• Float Requirement: First to float within skillset; may float between nearby campuses (2-hour notice for cross-campus float)
• On Call/Call Back: Not required

Experience & Certifications

• Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of strong neurology experience
• Prior Travel Experience: At least 1 prior travel assignment required
• Additional Experience: Trauma Level II experience required
• Charting: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class mandatory)
• Certifications:

  • Current active compact nursing license
  • AHA BLS
  • NIHSS

Patient Population & Skills

• Patient Population: Neuro and Neuro-Surgical patients including CVAs, elective back/neck surgeries, post-op craniotomies, cerebral angiograms, general medical, and psychiatric patients
• Skillset Requirements:

  • NIHSS and dysphagia screening
  • Strong neurological assessments
  • Basic telemetry interpretation
  • Strict intake & output monitoring
  • Straight catheterization and Foley catheter care
  • Initiate and titrate heparin drips
  • Blood and blood product administration, venipuncture, blood cultures
  • NG tube management
  • Indwelling drain management
  • Management of stable drips (e.g., Protonix, Lasix)
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills

Unit Information

• Unit Size: 37 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:

  • Days: 1:5-6
  • Nights: 1:5-7
• Team: Strong, well-developed team of staff nurses who welcome travelers
• Leadership: Experienced management with stable leadership since 2012
• Environment: Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs; no competing health system or agency logos allowed
• Attendance Policy: 3 call-ins may result in termination

• GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week
