Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department (ED) – Contract

Location: New York, NY
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours: Approximately 11 hours per day, 34.5 hours per week


Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, and quality nursing care to emergency department patients using evidence-based practice and nursing theory. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Support patient and family education, promote health, and ensure smooth transitions of care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team to develop and implement care plans.
  • Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, families, and team members.
  • Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing model.
  • Role model patient-centered care practices such as bedside shift reports, purposeful hourly rounding, medication review, and discharge wrap-up.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships considering patient values, preferences, and cultural diversity.
  • Initiate service recovery and escalate patient/family concerns appropriately.
  • Practice safe, efficient, and patient-centered care while identifying barriers and opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and nursing research activities.
  • Document nursing practice accurately to support quality and compliance initiatives.
  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned, including resource coordination and patient throughput facilitation.
  • Demonstrate cost-effective use of equipment, staff, and supplies.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with both adult and pediatric patients in the ED.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), or Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certifications.
  • Prior travel experience (minimum 1 year) preferred, especially with EPIC electronic health record system.
  • Trauma experience is a plus.
