Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department (ED) – Contract

Location: New York, NY
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (11 hours per day, approximately 34.5 hours per week)

Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, and quality nursing care in the Emergency Department based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. Deliver patient-centered care emphasizing relationship-centered care principles and effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing care using critical thinking and evidence-based practices.
• Assess and evaluate patient care needs, including adults and pediatrics.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement care plans.
• Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
• Manage patient assignments and resources efficiently within a modified primary nursing model.
• Perform charge nurse duties as assigned, including coordinating supplies and staffing resources.
• Facilitate patient throughput and document care accurately in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, nursing research, and safety practices.
• Role model relationship-centered care through structured communication and patient engagement activities.
• Support professional development and ethical decision-making within the nursing team.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year.
• Pediatric Emergency Room (ER) experience.
• Experience working with adult and/or pediatric patients.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Trauma nursing experience.
• Certifications such as Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN).
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred, especially with EPIC electronic health record system.
