Registered Nurse (Med/Surg) - Contract Position

Job Description

• Perform patient assessments and reassessments based on presenting problems and needs.
• Synthesize patient data to identify nursing priorities and desired outcomes.
• Integrate patient care plans according to diagnosis and age-specific needs.
• Ensure patient safety through proper identification, aseptic technique, positioning, surgical counts, and equipment use.
• Execute therapeutic and supportive interventions consistent with perioperative procedures.
• Provide education to patients and families to meet identified needs.
• Evaluate patient responses and progress toward established outcomes.
• Incorporate cultural considerations into care planning and delivery.
• Document patient care and related information accurately.
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary team members.
• Facilitate patient transitions to the next level of care.
• Support team members through timely communication and serve as a role model.
• Participate in ongoing learning and self-development relevant to the unit.
• May float to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) if comfortable and qualified.

Unit Information

• 32-bed acute care facility with Med/Surg, PCU, and ICU housed in the same area.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 on Med/Surg, 1:4 on PCU.
• Equipment used includes Wound Vacs.
• Shift options: 1845-0715 or 0645-1915.
• Dress code: Pewter Grey or Light Turquoise.
• Orientation: 4 hours general orientation, followed by shadowing a floor nurse for an afternoon, then 1 shift orientation with floor staff before working independently.
• New facility, open for 2 years.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience in an acute care setting
• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
• Experience with Epic electronic health records

Additional Notes

• Candidates should be prepared to work within 50 miles of the location.
• Recent experience with EPIC electronic health records is preferred.
• No prior travel experience explicitly required.
