Job Opportunity: PACU/PreOp Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

Seeking a licensed and experienced PACU RN for immediate start at a surgery center. The role involves working in Phase 1 and Phase 2 PACU with some Pre-Op duties as needed.

Unit Details

• PACU has 12 total beds (Phase 1 & 2) with 9-10 RNs staffing during open hours.
• Patient Ratios: Phase 1 is 1:2, Phase 2 is 1:3.
• Common cases include orthopedic surgeries, ENT, septoplasty, sports medicine, spinal surgeries, and pediatric cases.
• Responsibilities include patient discharge and education, stocking, room cleaning, crash cart checks, IV restarts, and assisting with Pre-Op tasks such as IV starts and vital signs.
• Use of 3-lead telemetry for rhythm monitoring; general tele knowledge required to recognize lethal rhythms.
• No ICU patient recovery in PACU.
• EMR system used: SIS.

Schedule & Shifts

• Primarily Monday through Friday with 10 or 12-hour day shifts.
• Possible variable start times (7:00-9:30 AM) for extended hours.
• Some Saturdays and variable shifts may be required, averaging 36 hours per week.
• No weekend, holiday, or on-call requirements.
• Floating is generally not required; occasional Pre-Op assistance possible if experienced.

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license.
• Minimum 1 year of PACU experience, preferably in a similar setting.
• Experience with pediatric patients preferred.
• Proficiency in IV starts and IV restarts in PACU.
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.
• Ability to work independently after a 3-day orientation.

Additional Information

• Dress code: Scrubs provided; personal caps allowed in OR areas; street clothes allowed on arrival.
• Charge nurse and management roles are hands-on and may float as needed.
• Nurse aides assist with patient care, bay turnover, and equipment setup.
• Respiratory therapy equipment rarely used; patients typically extubated before PACU.

This position is ideal for RNs with PACU experience looking for a short-term contract in a surgery center environment with a focus on both adult and pediatric care.
