Histotechnician – Night Shift
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Histotechnician to work in a high-volume pathology lab specializing in histology. The position involves performing technical procedures such as microtomy, embedding, re-cuts, special stains, tissue specimen processing, and microscopic exams. Work is conducted on an 8-hour night shift with variable start times; the histology department closes at 10:30 PM.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform microtomy, embedding, and re-cuts
- Troubleshoot difficult tissue blocks
- Maintain case integrity in a high-volume lab environment
- Conduct routine histology tasks including special stains, immunofluorescence, frozen sections, and surgical pathology technical procedures
- Routine maintenance of microtome and other lab equipment
- Work with EPIC Beaker EMR system
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Night shift, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
- No weekend, holiday, call, or standby requirements
- Department-specific orientation with daily trainer support; travelers are not left alone
- No scrub color or dress code requirement
Required Qualifications
- Certified Histotechnician (HT) or Certified Histotechnologist (HTL) certification via ASCP
- Experience with microtomy, embedding, re-cuts, and other histology lab procedures
- Detail-oriented with ability to maintain case integrity
- Active Illinois license or proof that application process has been initiated
- Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
Additional Information
- Local candidates within a 50-mile radius are accepted
- Orientation includes 12 non-billable hours
- Call-off policy allows up to 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty
