Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery
Location: Kearney, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in a hospital with approximately 50 births per month (600 per year)
- Assignment in a Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) unit with:
- 10 private LDRP rooms
- 2 antepartum rooms
- 1 OR suite
- Mothers labor and deliver in one bed; newborns stay in bassinets in mothers' rooms (no nursery)
- Emphasis on skin-to-skin care and strong teamwork
- Recognized as a Safe Sleep Champion by the Department of Health & Human Services
Work Schedule
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (6pm–6am)
- Approximately 36 hours per week
- Weekend requirement: every 3rd weekend (potentially every other depending on need)
- Holidays: one major and one minor holiday required
- Up to 2 extra mandatory shifts every 6 weeks
- Floating to NICU for feeders and growers only
Patient Care & Ratios
- Couplets ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients
- Laboring patients ratio: 1 nurse to 1 patient
- Common patient diagnoses: pregnancies at 32 weeks or more, no VBAC, mag sulfate therapy, insulin management
- C-section experience required (circulating role)
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong IV skills required
- Experience with EPIC charting is a plus
- Floor-specific orientation: 1–2 days
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Nebraska RN license or compact license
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC certified
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – AHA or ARC certified
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certified
- Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification preferred
Unit Resources & Support
- OBIX FHM monitoring system
- GE telemetry (centrally monitored)
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7
- Pharmacy on call at night, moving toward 24/7 coverage
- Anesthesia on call with 20-minute response time
- OB/Neonatologist on call
- Charge RN, lactation counselor, maternity educator, unit secretary/notary, and nurse aides/OB techs available
Additional Notes
- Scrubs provided by hospital
- No ventilators on unit
- Strong emphasis on teamwork and patient-centered care
- Floating primarily to NICU for specific patient care (feeders and growers)

This is a 13-week travel assignment for an experienced Labor & Delivery RN with strong IV skills and C-section circulating experience. The role requires current Nebraska licensure, BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications, with a preference for FHM certification.
