Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery/Postpartum

Location: Glendale, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery/Postpartum nurse for a travel contract in a hospital setting. The unit includes Labor & Delivery (10 beds, 2 ORs), 2 triage beds, and 18 postpartum beds. Approximately 130 births per month.


Work Schedule

  • 12-hour night shifts (7 PM start)
  • 36 hours per week
  • Weekend requirement: 4 shifts in a 4-week period
  • Holidays: 1 major (Christmas, Thanksgiving, or New Year’s) and 1 minor holiday required
  • No call requirement

Patient Care & Environment

  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • 1:1 close to delivery
    • 1:2 otherwise in Labor & Delivery
    • 1:4 in postpartum couplets
  • Common patient diagnoses include deliveries down to 23 weeks gestation, some high-risk cases such as antepartum and hypertension
  • Perinatology support available
  • C-section experience required (scrub, recovery, and circulate roles)
  • Floating primarily from Labor & Delivery to Postpartum; postpartum floating limited unless NICU background
  • Floor-specific orientation: 3 shifts

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Active California RN license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Advanced AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) certification including Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience
  • Travel experience preferred but not explicitly required

Additional Information

  • Fetal Heart Monitoring system: Obix
  • Electronic Medical Record system: Cerner
  • Charge nurse role shared between Labor & Delivery and Postpartum
  • Scrub techs available in Labor & Delivery; no nurse aides or OB techs otherwise
  • Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services available 24/7
  • No telemetry or ventilator patients on unit
  • No in-house OB/Neonatologist currently
  • Scrub color provided
  • Night shifts scheduled every other weekend; first to float on nights

This position is ideal for a Labor & Delivery nurse with solid clinical experience, required certifications, and a preference for night shifts in a busy hospital environment.
