Contract Length

Department & Unit Details
- Unit: ICU
- Number of Beds: 33 beds (average daily census: 16)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
- Common Patient Diagnoses/Types:
- Trauma
- Cardiac conditions
- Overdose/substance abuse
- Adult sepsis
- Post-stent and pacemaker placement
- Stroke and vascular cases
- Renal failure
- Heart failure
- Respiratory distress
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including:
- Cardiac drips
- Insulin
- Sedation
- Respiratory equipment involvement:
- From nasal cannula to ventilators
- RNs troubleshoot respiratory equipment but do not perform advanced respiratory therapy
- Monitor/Telemetry:
- RNs must read, interpret, and document cardiac monitor strips
- Monitors are GE brand with telemetry tech oversight
Support Staff
- Nurse Aides available based on census; assist with 1:1 patient care or floor support
- Healthcare Support Tech present 3 days per week (Monday-Friday, 0800-1630)
Scheduling & Shifts
- Shift options:
- 0630-1830 (day shift)
- 1830-0630 (night shift)
- Self-scheduling allowed for core staff and travelers
- Block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends only
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: minimum of 2 holidays during contract
- Orientation: 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
- Return to Orientation (RTO) required upfront if less than 7 days for a 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved
Additional Policies & Notes
- Candidates must have a valid driver's license at submission to verify distance within 50 miles radius
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
- Fingernail policy: Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
- RN exam during orientation: Pass/fail open book exam on skills learned; must score 90% or higher or face termination
- Floating assignments typically to PCU, occasionally MedSurg with typical patient ratios (1:4 or 1:5)
- Duo scheduling or shared carpooling requests are not accepted
