Registered Nurse (ER) - Arizona, Yuma
Job Overview
- Location: Yuma, Arizona
- Unit: Emergency Room (ER)
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 1pm to 1am
- Start Date: May 18 (start dates are not flexible)
- Patient Volume: Approximately 200 patients per day
- ER Beds: 52 total, including 4 trauma bays and 6 fast track beds
- Trauma Level: Level III trauma center (ER operates like Level I)
- Patient Types: All emergency cases including STEMI and stroke receiving (stroke interventions are transferred out)
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of ER experience within the past 3 years at a Level I or II trauma center (Level III or Critical Access Hospital experience not accepted)
- Active certifications required:
- ACLS
- BLS
- PALS
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred
- Proficiency with Epic EMR, with recent use required
Licensing
- Must hold an active RN license appropriate for Arizona
Work Environment & Responsibilities
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- 1:5 in medical ER
- 1:6 in fast track
- Nurses read their own telemetry; monitor techs are also available
- Shared floating schedule with a nearby freestanding ER (approximately 15-minute drive)
- No seclusion rooms for psychiatric patients
- Security present in ER 24/7
- ED staffed with physicians, mid-level providers, and pediatric board-certified providers on varied shifts
- No charge nurse on shift; house supervisor available for assistance
- Support staff includes experienced ED techs (EKG, vitals, blood draws, splints) and patient care assistants
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7 with advanced equipment (Glidescope, Hamilton and Phillips ventilators)
- Dedicated CT and X-ray in ER; transport team available for critical patients
- Labs drawn by ED techs or RNs (no phlebotomy staff)
Scheduling & Orientation
- Varied shift start times: 7am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 3pm
- Modified self-scheduling model
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week block
- Holiday requirement: Typically 2 shifts per 5 holidays (including eves)
- Orientation includes:
- One day New Employee Orientation (NEO)
- One day clinical/EPIC training
- One day floor orientation
Additional Information
- 100-mile radius travel rule applies
- No 48-hour shift guarantees
- No blocked scheduling requests allowed
- Maximum of 5 days of return-to-office (RTO) allowed during assignment
- Uniform scrub color: Navy blue
