Registered Nurse (ICU)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts (0630-1830, 1830-0630)
Hours Guaranteed: 36 hours per week

Unit Details

• Department: Medical Surgical ICU
• Unit Size: 34 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • ICU: 1:1-2
  • PCU: 1:4-5
  • Med Surg: 1:5-6
• Patient Population: Adults and pediatrics over 15 years old
• Common Diagnoses:

  • Neuro surgery (experience not required)
  • Respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke
  • Cardiogenic shock (impella, balloon pump - experience not required)
  • Renal failure (CRRT - experience not required)
  • General surgery, psych/overdose, GI bleeds
  • Cancer-specific surgeries (esophagectomy, internal chemo administration)
• Equipment & Procedures:

  • CVPs, Arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, EV-1000, ICP monitoring (training provided)
  • Zoll Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol
  • Bell Mont rapid transfuser
• Respiratory Equipment: Nasal cannula to ventilators (RNs troubleshoot)
• Telemetry: No telemetry techs; RNs must read and interpret Draeger heart monitors with centralized telemetry
• Drip Titration: Yes (vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, antiarrhythmics)
• Charge Nurse: Present and takes assignment; attends RRTs and Codes
• Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio 1:18

Scheduling & Requirements

• Scheduling: Manager-made schedule based on unit needs (no self-scheduling)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other, based on unit needs
• Floating: Will float to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
• Orientation: 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years recent ICU experience
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail skills exam during orientation (open book)
• Valid driver’s license required at submission (used to verify candidate location within 50 miles)
• Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas (non-compliance may lead to contract termination)

Restrictions

• Candidates may not currently be employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within a 50-mile radius
• Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions will be approved
