Contract Length

• 16 weeks

Schedule

• Nights, 12-hour shifts
• 48 hours per week
• Shift times: 6:30 PM–7:00 AM or 6:30 AM–7:00 PM
• Weekend requirement: at least 6 weekend shifts within each 6-week schedule block
• No call or standby requirement

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Oklahoma
• ICU - Intensive Care Unit (3 years of experience)
• ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience in a(n) Acute Care setting
• Experience with Epic

Required Certifications

• ACLS
• BLS
• NIHSS

Clinical Expectations

• High-acuity mixed medical-surgical and thoracic/cardiovascular ICU patients
• Common patient types include respiratory failure, ARDS, CHF, COPD, post-STEMI, post-arrest, post-surgical, CABG, carotid, DKA, GI bleed, overdose, ETOH withdrawal, CVA with or without TNK, and renal failure
• No trauma, hemorrhagic strokes, or neuro surgery
• May care for IABP, Impella, CRRT, or open-heart recovery patients if competency is established and verified
• Expected to manage pressors, sedation, paralytics, insulin, heparin, and similar drips
• Nurses are responsible for EKG monitoring and interpretation
• Nurses are expected to draw labs and perform EKGs
• Travelers float first and may be assigned a patient team of up to 5 patients

Unit Details

• 23 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:3 depending on acuity
• Charge nurse has no patient assignment
• Nurse aides are available 1 on days and nights if census is over 8 patients
• Dedicated ICU internal medicine team available 24/7
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7
• Ventilator, BiPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula support available
• No monitor techs

Orientation

• 8 hours of non-billable orientation
• Two orientation shifts:

  • Day 1: classroom and unit orientation, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
  • Day 2: unit orientation with a preceptor for a 12-hour shift aligned to the contract shift
• Modules are required before the first day and take about 2 hours
• Guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation

Additional Notes

• Black scrubs required
• Teaching facility with expectation of professional, supportive interactions
• No tube station
• ICU is on the 4th floor; Pharmacy and Lab are on the 1st floor
• VAD team available for PICC placement and difficult IV sticks during weekday hours, but nurses are expected to attempt PIVs first
• Support staff is available 24/7 but not assigned to ICU
• Must clock in and out at the facility
