Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Location

  • Chandler, Arizona

Assignment Type

  • Travel assignment
  • Contract length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

  • Labor and Delivery unit with:
    • 18 LDRP beds
    • 14 OB triage beds
    • 8 Antepartum beds
  • Average deliveries: 8-10 per day (~320/month)
  • 2 fully equipped OR suites for C-sections
  • Level II Equivalency (gestations 28 weeks and greater)
  • Level 1 Trauma Center designation

Shift & Schedule

  • Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
  • 36 hours per week (3 shifts)
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per schedule
  • Call/standby: Voluntary
  • Holiday coverage: Required to work 2 of 3 major holidays; coverage appreciated on others

Patient Population

  • Laboring or preterm pregnant patients
  • Common diagnoses related to labor and delivery

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Must confidently circulate and recover C-sections (experience required)
  • Titrate drips such as Pitocin and Magnesium Sulfate per protocol
  • Floating to Mother-Baby/Postpartum unit as needed
  • No scrub required during C-sections
  • Patients transferred to postpartum after delivery

Staffing & Support

  • Nurse-to-patient ratios mostly 2:1 depending on acuity
  • Antepartum ratio can be 4:1; C-sections 1:1
  • OB Hospitalist in-house 24/7
  • Anesthesia in-house 24/7
  • Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 (including vents, CPAP, BiPAP)
  • IV team available if needed
  • Pharmacy available 24/7
  • 13 charge nurses on unit
  • No nurse aides on unit

Technology & Documentation

  • Electronic Medical Record system: Cerner (computer charting experience preferred)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: Fetal Link

Orientation & Training

  • Floor-specific orientation: 1 week
  • Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
  • Must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to starting (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts)

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Active Arizona RN license or compact license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience
  • Must have experience with C-sections

Additional Requirements

  • COVID-19 vaccine required or approved declination with documentation
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
