Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU 4E
Location
- Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Unit: 4th Floor East Wing, Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Number of beds: 55
- Patient population: Adults primarily; pediatric patients rarely, age 15 and older
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 (both day and night shifts)
- Shift length: 12 hours
- Shift times: 06:30–18:30 (Days), 18:30–06:30 (Nights)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
Job Responsibilities & Environment
- Patient diagnoses commonly include CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and weakness
- Common medications/drips: PCA pumps for pain management, cardizem, insulin
- Telemetry monitoring required
- Use of specialty equipment such as mechanical lifts in every other room
- EMR system: EPIC
- IV pumps: Alaris
- Nursing assistant support and charge nurse available
- Additional unit support: Educator, Care Managers, Social Workers, Dieticians, Physical and Occupational Therapists
- Float assignments expected, ideally to Medical-Surgical areas based on highest need
- Focus on patient experience through hourly rounding and responsiveness
- Unit challenges include staffing
Required Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Telemetry competency
Qualifications & Requirements
- Must pass a pass/fail exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book, based on skills learned)
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- Driver’s license required at time of application to verify candidate is within a 50-mile radius
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with the specified health system
- Scrubs: Navy blue for RNs
Work Schedule
- 12-hour day shifts
- Approximately 36 hours per week
