Registered Nurse (Medical-Surgical Acute Care)
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7 PM – 7 AM)
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Fri/Sat nights)
Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation per policy
Unit Details
- 18 beds (mostly private rooms, one semi-private)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 5-6:1 (nights)
- Two patient care technicians (PCTs) per shift, ratio approximately 9:1 when full
- Patients include general medical with various diagnoses
- Oxygen support up to 6L nasal cannula; stable BiPAP/CPAP use at night or PRN
- Telemetry monitored remotely by telemetry department; unit uses Phillips monitors
- 24/7 house supervisor and 24-hour charge nurse coverage (charge nurse may have patient assignments)
- Hospitalist and intensivist coverage 24/7
- Pharmacy and respiratory therapy available 24/7
- Inpatient phlebotomy team available for blood draws
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license (or application in process)
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- ACLS preferred for Charge RN positions
- Minimum 1 year hospital experience preferred
- Ability to titrate Heparin drips
- Must produce a negative drug screen (drug-free campus policy)
Orientation & Scheduling
- One 12-hour shift orientation with unit preceptor
- 12-hour shifts with shift report at 7 AM and 7 PM
- Travelers may collaborate with leadership for scheduling preferences
- No call or standby requirement
- Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed
Additional Information
- Scrub color: Any color, staff must provide their own (no pediatric scrubs)
- RNs expected to attempt IV starts; unit resources available if unsuccessful
- Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
- Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius
