CCU RN

Role Overview

• 13-week contract in Houston, Texas
• Day shift, 12 hours per day, 48 hours per week
• 18-bed CCU
• Busy, large Level 1 Trauma setting

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• ACLS
• BLS
• NIHSS
• 3+ years of experience
• Prior travel experience
• Experience working in a very busy hospital
• Must be open to floating
• Flexible scheduling; no self-scheduling
• Every other weekend required
• EPIC documentation required
• Must be able to titrate drips
• Must be able to troubleshoot ventilators and respond to emergencies such as self-extubation or trach dislodgement
• Must be able to suction competently and identify issues requiring escalation

Preferred Experience

• Experience with ventilators, managing pressors, and hemodynamics including PAC, CVP, and arterial lines
• Experience with sheaths, IABP, Impella, CRRT, and occasionally paralyzing and sedating patients with BIS and TOF

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2, occasionally 1:1
• Common patient types include heart failure, STEMI, pulmonary emboli, arrhythmias, and MICU overflow
• Charge nurse is present each shift and is intended to be free charge, though not often achieved
• Patient care assistant support is minimal
• RT is in the ICU 24/7
• CCU is not a closed unit yet; MICU patients are managed in an intensivist model, and the CCU fellow is available 24/7

Scheduling and Logistics

• Travelers fill open holes and work every other weekend
• Holidays are usually covered, but days before and after may be required
• Call or standby is not required
• First to float to similar units
• Two 12-hour unit orientation shifts
• Scrub color: teal tops and bottoms, with solid or coordinating non-terrycloth jackets

Parking

• Daily parking is $15+ per day
• Monthly parking options range from $95 to $120
