Travel Nurse Opportunity: Med Surg/PCU/Tele RN - 5N Neuro Trauma

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• Unit: PCU RN - 5N Neuro Trauma
• Beds: 28
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:5-6 (dependent on acuity)
• Common Diagnoses/Patient Types:

  • Neurological focus: strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barré syndrome, Myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA 24 hours post, neuro specialties including endovascular, altered mental status, dementia
  • Trauma/ortho injuries: hematomas, bleeds, falls on blood thinners, farm and motor vehicle accidents

Experience & Skills Required

• Minimum 2 years of Med Surg, PCU, or ICU nursing experience
• Experience must be within the last 1 year
• Must have drip experience and be comfortable titrating drips (Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3%, Insulin)
• Highly preferred: experience with home trach vents
• Willingness to learn ventilator management (training provided)
• Open to first-time travel nurses (prior travel experience NOT required)

Certifications

• BLS (AHA)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Shift & Scheduling

• 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
• Self-scheduling with manager balancing (schedule opens 6 weeks in advance)
• Weekend requirement: every other Friday, Saturday, Sunday
• Holiday requirement: typically 2 out of 3 winter holidays, otherwise every other holiday
• No call or standby required

Additional Information

• Charge nurse role: Yes, nights take a full team assignment; days take a smaller assignment
• Nurse aide ratios: Days 1:9, Nights 1:12
• Respiratory therapy equipment on unit: vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, VapoTherm, EtCO2
• Telemetry: Central monitor located separately; RNs not required to read their own strips
• Floating: Required to float to sister Med Surg units with various specialties (mixed care, cardiac, general, ortho, heme/onc)
• Dress code: Any solid color scrubs
• Orientation: 1 shift general orientation + 1 shift with preceptor
• Timekeeping: Must clock in and out at the facility
• Previous employment with this facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying

This position is ideal for nurses with solid Med Surg/PCU/ICU experience who are comfortable with neuro trauma patients and drip management, and who are open to learning ventilator care. Prior travel experience is not required.
