Registered Nurse (Med Surg/IMC/Tele)

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Intermediate Care (IMC) / Telemetry / Med Surg
• Beds: 28
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day/PM shifts: 1:5
  • Night shifts: 1:5-7 (average 6, must be comfortable with up to 7 patients)
• Patient Population:

  • Up to 75% cardiac patients (pre/post caths, chest pain, NSTEMIs, no post-CABG but procedural cardiac cases)
  • Other diagnoses: CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, wounds, stroke overflow

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license
• BLS (AHA) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Minimum 1 year experience in Telemetry, IMC, or Stepdown nursing
• Majority of experience must be cardiac-focused
• Drip experience required; RNs must titrate drips
• Preferred: Previous travel nursing experience

Common Skills & Responsibilities

• Good communication, teamwork, and work ethic
• Titration of drips including insulin, heparin, nitro, diltiazem, lasix
• Reading cardiac rhythms on unit monitors (telemetry techs monitor remotely)
• Charge nurse takes partial patient assignment and provides support to staff
• Floating to other Med/Surg floors and occasionally outside the cluster based on patient needs and specialty experience

Equipment & Technology

• Continuous CPAP & BiPAP, high flow oxygen, vapotherm, nebulizers, chest physiotherapy
• No ventilators on unit

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts:

  • 0700-1900
  • 1100-2300
  • 1900-0700
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling attempts made but not guaranteed
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday requirement: Every other holiday
• No on-call or standby for agency staff; shifts scheduled in 4-hour blocks for flexibility

Additional Information

• Nurse aides available with ratios:

  • Day/PM: 1:9
  • Night: 1:14 (if fully staffed)
• Dress code: Any clean, professional scrub color
• Orientation: 1 full 12-hour day off-unit + 1 full 12-hour shift on-unit
• Staff must clock in/out at facility
• Prior employment with the facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying

Note: Prior travel experience is preferred but not explicitly required.
