Registered Nurse (RN) - Float Pool (ICU/MedSurg Telemetry/PCU)
Location: Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit/Department Overview
- Float Pool includes ICU, MedSurg Telemetry, and PCU units across two campuses.
- Units also cover inpatients holding in the Emergency Department.
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratios:
- PCU: 1:4
- MedSurg Telemetry: 1:5-6
- Patient population includes geriatric, orthopedic, post-procedural cardiac patients (post-MI, post-cardiac cath, CABG post-op day 3-4).
- Respiratory support equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow in PCU and MedSurg.
Required Certifications & Exams
- BLS and ACLS certifications required.
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required.
- Must be comfortable titrating drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin.
- Ability to interpret cardiac monitor strips is required.
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Shifts: 7 AM to 7 PM (day and evening shifts).
- Scheduling is managed by the float pool scheduler; schedule published 6 weeks in advance for 4 weeks at a time.
- Night shift may allow block scheduling.
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
- Holiday coverage includes travelers in permanent staff rotation.
- Call/standby may be required during shifts with excessive staff; standby nurses must be available to be called in at any time during their 12-hour shift.
- Unit assignments communicated by text message approximately 2 hours before shift start.
- Distance between campuses is approximately 20-25 minutes.
- Dress code: solid color professional scrubs, transitioning to navy scrubs in October.
Orientation
- 8-hour general hospital orientation day.
- 12-hour shift orientation at West MedSurg Telemetry and PCU units.
- East campus orientation is similar but smaller and easier to navigate.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any related facilities within the past year.
- Nurse aids are utilized on all units.
- Charge nurses do not take patient assignments.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Minimum 1 year ICU experience.
- Ability to titrate drips and interpret cardiac rhythms.
- Successful completion of dysrhythmia exam prior to contract.
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable working across multiple critical care and stepdown units in a float pool setting.

Cons
Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
