Job Opportunity: Surgical Technician
Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide intra-operative care to patients of all ages undergoing surgical procedures.
- Assist in operations under supervision of physicians, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining the sterile field.
- Prepare the operating room by collecting supplies and equipment.
- Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons while functioning within the sterile field.
- Surgical specialties include ENT, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Pain Management, Ophthalmology, Urology, OB/Gynecology, and Endoscopy procedures.
- Shifts are 10 hours long.
- Additional call hours required: approximately 70-80 hours in a 4-week period with a 30-minute response time.
Required Certifications and Credentials
- BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for clinical positions (AHA or ARC accepted).
- Professional License/Certificate Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start.
- Education Verification: Must be verified through a 3rd party.
- Drug Screen: 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (THC not required). Instant accepted if results not available at start.
- Skills Checklist: Must be completed within the last 12 months.
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Declination accepted.
- MMR: 2 vaccines or positive titer; if low or equivocal, 1 booster or declination accepted.
- Fit Test: Completed prior to start with acceptable masks specified.
- Hepatitis B: 2 vaccines or positive titer; if low or equivocal, 1 booster or declination accepted.
- TB Test: Negative test within the past year (TSPOT or QuantiFERON IGG). If history of positive TB test, additional documentation required.
- Health Statement: Physician statement within the last 12 months.
- Driver’s License/State ID: Unexpired government-issued photo ID.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; if low or equivocal, 1 booster or declination accepted.
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years; declinations accepted.
- Background Check: Within 30 days of start, including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, and sex offender checks.
- Iowa Adult and Child Abuse Clearance: State requirement.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM HHS/OIG Check: Within 30 days of start.
- References: 2 professional references required, including 1 supervisor.
- Resume: Required for submission.
- I-9 Attestation: Must be completed.
- Color Vision Test: Required.
- NSO and OFAC Checks: Within 30 days of start.
- OSHA Questionnaire: Candidate must complete.
- Pre-Orientation CBL Acknowledgement: Required.
- Influenza Vaccine: Required annually by December 1 (Sept 1 – March 31 season); vaccine or facility declination accepted.
