Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: El Paso, Texas
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in the Operating Room (OR) setting.
  • Experience required in general surgery, trauma surgery, neurosurgery, and cardiovascular surgery.
  • Must have experience working in Level 1 OR Trauma centers (strict requirement).
  • On-call availability is required.
  • First-time travel nurses accepted if they have experience at a Level I facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Texas.
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Certifications issued by the American Heart Association:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Experience in trauma and neurosurgery.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Background check within 30 days of start, updated annually, including:
    • 7-year history
    • SS Trace
    • County, Nationwide, and National Sex Offender checks
    • FACIS Level 3
    • Education verification (Bachelor’s degree required for permanent staff; Associates degree acceptable for travel staff).
  • Employment application required.
  • Primary source verification of RN license (NURSYS verification required).
  • E-Verify, SAM, and OIG checks required.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • Negative TB test (TSPOT or QGOLD within 3 months) or 2-step PPD; if positive, chest X-ray and TB questionnaire required.
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • TDAP or TD vaccine required (declination allowed if unable to obtain).
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 – March 31) with a final deadline to obtain by mid-December.
  • COVID vaccination series or approved medical/religious exemption required (facility-specific exemption forms must be used).
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.

Additional Facility Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific onboarding modules prior to start (unpaid).
  • Forward-facing head and shoulder photo with neutral background for badge.
  • Completion and signing of various facility agreements and acknowledgments including:
    • Property Acknowledgement
    • Culture of Safety Training
    • Confidentiality and Security Agreement
    • Tobacco-Free Workplace Agreement
  • Facility-specific IT and staff information forms must be completed.

Summary

This is a night-shift travel Registered Nurse position in the Operating Room requiring at least 2 years of specialty experience, certifications in ACLS, BLS, and PALS, and experience in Level 1 trauma centers. The role demands strict compliance with health, background, and facility-specific documentation and training requirements. On-call availability is mandatory. First-time travel nurses are accepted if they meet the Level I facility experience requirement.
