Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse
Location: Orange, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a Pediatric Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) setting.
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (06:30 AM – 07:00 PM).
- Care for congenital heart and other cardiac surgery patients; pediatric CVOR experience preferred for pediatric cardiac cases.
- Expected to care for general OR patients as well.
- Call requirement: 1-2 weekends per month, with 72 hours plus 8 additional days per month on call (12-24 hours/day depending on schedule).
- Floating to main OR may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California.
- Pediatric CVOR experience with a minimum of 2 years, including experience within the last year.
- One completed travel assignment.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS and PALS (AHA only) required.
- ACLS may be required depending on unit (confirm with recruiter).
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam specific to pediatrics required; must score 80% or higher on NICU Pharmacology section if applicable.
- Pediatric competency exams required (no adult exams).
- Additional certifications such as NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, MAB, CPI may be required depending on unit or extension of assignment.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Negative 9-panel drug test within 60 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap vaccine (TD or Dtap not acceptable).
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if titers low/negative.
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, declination, or proof of 3-shot series.
- TB screening: IGRA or 2-step PPD within 60 days of start; special requirements if prior positive TB test. Annual TB questionnaire required.
- Mask fit testing required prior to start (cannot be completed onsite); specific mask types accepted.
- Eye exam (in-person visual acuity) and color blind exam (Ishihara test) required prior to start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- COVID vaccines preferred but not mandatory.
Background & Documentation
- Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including 7-year search and multiple databases.
- Employment application and verification of at least 2 previous employers (7 years relevant experience) required prior to start; cannot be pending.
- Two supervisor references required (charge RN or floor supervisor acceptable); may be pending at start if necessary.
- Primary source verification of license must be completed prior to start and updated every 3 months.
- Photo ID (driver’s license or passport) required upon arrival.
Orientation & Facility Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to starting clinical work; modules take approximately 6-8 hours and must be completed by specified deadlines.
- Facility orientation includes virtual and in-person components; travelers must be local or able to report to campus for unit orientation activities.
- Professional photo required for badge; must be submitted by specified deadline.
- Completion and signing of various facility documents including job description acknowledgment, non-disclosure agreement, safety manual, dress code acknowledgment (including fingernail hygiene policy), and others prior to start.
- Pyxis access request form must be completed before starting.
- Radiation badge required if assigned to Cath Lab, OR, Procedure Center, or Urology Clinic (badge provided by facility, not recruiter).
Additional Notes
- This position does not accept first-time travel nurses; prior travel experience is required.
- Floating to main OR and weekend call are part of the job expectations.
- Pediatric CVOR experience is preferred for pediatric cardiac cases but not strictly required if CVOR experience is met.
- The role involves care for both pediatric cardiac surgery patients and general OR patients.
