Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a well-rounded Operating Room RN with strong Oncology Surgery and general surgery experience. The role primarily covers day shifts with possible night shift rotations and occasional off-shifting. The position requires flexibility to float outside the specialty area and includes weeknight and weekend call responsibilities.

Work Schedule

• Primarily Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (4x10 hour shifts)
• Possible Night Shift Rotation: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (4x10 hour shifts)
• Off-shifting: 1-3 shifts per 4-week period (may not always occur)
• Weeknight Call: 1-2 nights per week on average
• Weekend Call: Approximately every 4-5 weeks (24-hour shift on Saturday or Sunday)
• Block scheduling is NOT accommodated

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of Operating Room RN experience
• Oncology Surgery experience required, with general surgery experience
• Trauma experience: minimum Level 2 required; Level 1 strongly preferred
• Experience with majority of the following cases:

  • Whipple, Esophagectomy, Exploratory Laparotomy, Bowel Resection
  • Thyroidectomy, Parathyroidectomy, Laparoscopic Adrenalectomy
  • Neck Dissection, Breast Reduction, Stage 1 & 2 Breast Reconstruction
  • Free Flaps, Mastectomy, Lumpectomy, Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy
  • Melanoma Excisions
• DaVinci surgical system experience highly preferred
• Oncology, Orthopedic, and Neurosurgery experience highly preferred
• Must be able to float and work outside of specialty as needed

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Nebraska
• Minimum 2 years of Operating Room experience, including experience within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience working with Level 2 Trauma patients
• Oncology experience
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Orientation & Onboarding

• Bi-weekly orientation sessions
• Scrubs provided by the facility for OR/Surgical staff

Facility & Environment

• 100% nicotine-free facility
• Parking permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply
• Call-back pay applies only if called back after leaving the facility post-shift
• Travelers are paid differently than core staff; pay questions should be directed to the agency

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• Background check within 30 days of start, updated annually (includes multi-county, statewide, nationwide, and federal checks)
• SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and monthly thereafter
• Education verification required
• State-specific abuse/neglect registry check required within 30 days of start
• Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required prior to start
• Annual physical exam and fit mask test (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+) required
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tdap within last 10 years
  • Annual TB screening (PPD or equivalent) with chest x-ray if positive history
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) with boosters if needed
  • Hepatitis B titer or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
  • Drug screen within 60 days of start and annually thereafter
  • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
  • COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemptions accepted
• Baseline eye exam (Snellen) required within 30 days of start for OR staff
• Annual skills checklist required
• Two professional references from the past 2 years required

• Candidates must be flexible with scheduling and call requirements
• No block scheduling available
• Must be comfortable working in a high-acuity, complex patient environment
