Registered Nurse - Nursery (NICU/Special Care Nursery)
Location: Clinton, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3x12 hours, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a Level II Special Care Nursery (NICU II) requiring consistent monitoring and maintenance of cardiopulmonary, neurologic, metabolic, and thermal stability of newborns.
- Assist with specialized procedures such as lumbar puncture and endotracheal resuscitation for newborns 32 weeks gestation or greater.
- Initiate, modify, or stop treatments per established protocols or physician orders.
- Float to Postpartum and Labor and Delivery units to provide neonatal care as needed.
- Work every other weekend and every other holiday.
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland.
- Minimum 2 years of nursery experience, including NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) experience.
- Nursery experience within the last year.
- Completion of at least one prior travel nursing assignment.
- Experience in Labor and Delivery.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Maryland.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC).
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
- S.T.A.B.L.E. certification.
Competency Requirements
- Must pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with a minimum overall score of 80% and 100% on lethal rhythms section prior to start.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with a passing score of 80% or higher, updated every three years.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam updated annually.
Health & Background Requirements
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform job duties without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
- Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon, or T-spot) within 1 year; if history of TB, additional documentation required.
- Up-to-date immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred.
- Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana).
- Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Sept-Mar).
- Criminal background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to and during assignment.
Additional Requirements
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years.
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start.
- Valid driver’s license required if driving is an essential job function.
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual.
- N95 fit test within 9 months of start and updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed).
Work Schedule & Expectations
- 36 hours per week, working 3 twelve-hour night shifts.
- Every other weekend and holiday coverage required.
- Ability to float to related units for neonatal care.
This position is ideal for experienced NICU RNs with prior travel nursing experience seeking a challenging role in a Level II Special Care Nursery environment.
