Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Correctional

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Shift: Day, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Time Off (RTO): Maximum 5 days total, no more than 2 consecutive days; no time off on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
  • Mandatory floating within scope to meet facility needs

Specialty & Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg - Correctional)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing
  • Correctional nursing experience is required

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Current, valid RN license for Illinois (pending licenses not accepted)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only)

Facility & Work Environment

  • Correctional healthcare setting
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Electronic charting system: Cerner
  • Free parking available (first come, first served)
  • Local candidates accepted within 75 miles radius

Required Pre-Employment and Ongoing Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (clear and legible)
  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; includes SSN trace, nationwide sex offender, and other standard checks
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
  • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months; PPDs not accepted after 12/15/2025
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination (declination must be within 12 months)
  • Required immunizations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer), Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer), Hepatitis B series/titer or signed declination
  • Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (flu season: Oct 1 – May 4)
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year; medical or religious exemptions require approval for onsite PAPR use
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; testing initiated within 48 hours of contract signing
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam and other competency exams required within 12 months of start
  • NIH Stroke Certification required for RNs in Med Surg and related specialties, updated annually
  • Completion of PromisePoint EMR training modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific forms and rules of behavior
  • Must comply with mandatory floating policy
  • No block scheduling accommodations
